DOMANOF honour Ukrainian women’s fight against Russian invasion, through cape MAMA.
Ukrainian fashion brand DOMANOF have created a cape, dedicated to the mother figure and her role in resisting the Russian invasion and occupation in Ukraine. This piece is part of their new autumn-winter 2022-2023 collection, which have been named MAMA.
The Cape symbolizes a deep respect for Ukrainian mothers, and illustrates the difficult path of modern women, who raise children during war time, wait their sons from the front, and defend Ukraine’s Independence, in the ranks of the Armed Forces and Volunteer organisations. This new element of the DOMANOF’s collection also honours the memory of those mothers who became victims of violence made by Russian military in the temporary occupied territories, and who fell victim of missile attacks by the invaders.
his element of unique outerwear is created from natural linen and decorated with hand-embroidered threads with women’s names. As a result, the cape, in addition to a practical function, performs a symbolic one, by representing a memorial on which the names of the heroes are engraved. Colours of the threads used to crown the names are red and black, was selected with a reason. Namely, the designers implemented the text of the song “Two Colours” by the Ukrainian author Dmytro Pavlychk, who stated “Red is love, and black is sorrow” - As DOMANOF’s designers believe that love and sorrow are bounded during this war, and added “We wish for every child to have a mother who will love, and return home alive”.
